So my book press decided to take a walk mid-project

I was pressing a text block and the whole thing slid off the table, sending signatures everywhere. I fixed it by stacking some heavy books on top as a makeshift weight, and it actually worked better than before.

Read in a bookbinding magazine once that a lot of those smaller presses can actually be too light. The article said the real old-school ones used way heavier cast iron for a reason. Your stack of books probably just hit that sweet spot of even pressure the wobbly press was missing.

Totally. My janky washing machine fix still holds.

That "worked better" part is so true for improvised fixes sometimes.

Used to think that was dumb, but max_brown's washing machine proves it.
