inCereal addiction conspiracies had me fooled until a food scientist friend set me straight
Consider how the crunch sound gets studied in food labs. They DO test it to make the eating experience better. But calling it "designed to make you want more" makes it sound EVIL. It's really just about sensory appeal, not addiction. Marketing uses all kinds of tricks, and sound is one of them. So while the crunch is on purpose, it's not a dark plot, just smart business.

inRemembering how my dad got his first truck loan without a computer
Check the training data for those algorithms. Seen old mortgage approval sets used to build new systems. They just baked the old bias into code. The redlining is still there, just automated now.

inRant: Everyone pushes for full face shields on every grind, but I think safety glasses with side guards are enough for most cuts.
Yeah, but luck isn't a safety plan. I've seen a cutter wheel explode once (total freak thing), and that shield caught stuff glasses would've missed. My shop makes us wear the full shield now for any wheel work, and honestly, you just get used to it. It's not about daily comfort, it's about that one-in-a-million shot.

inWarning: I flat out refuse to install used control boards from shady suppliers.
The last time I cheaped out on parts it cost me more in returns.

inSo my book press decided to take a walk mid-project
Read in a bookbinding magazine once that a lot of those smaller presses can actually be too light. The article said the real old-school ones used way heavier cast iron for a reason. Your stack of books probably just hit that sweet spot of even pressure the wobbly press was missing.
