Our camping weekend was a budget meal success

We grilled cheap sausages and veggies. Felt like a feast without the high cost.

Bell peppers, what other veggies fit your budget?

Totally get that feeling. Honestly, a cheap meal just hits different when you're outside and tired. Makes the whole trip better.

Those two dollar sausages per person can turn into a real meal out in the woods. I have a theory that hunger and pine trees are the best seasonings. What was the exact moment you realized it felt like a feast? Was it when the veggies hit the grill, or when you all sat down to eat? The context of camping seems to erase the usual cheap food stigma. I am curious about the veggie choice too, since that is often where budget meals fall flat. Getting that balance right feels like a small victory.

Last year at Lake Tahoe, I read a blog post about camp cooking. It said that throwing zucchini and bell peppers on the grill with those sausages makes everything taste amazing. @logan525, you're right about hunger being the best seasoning. Honestly, the moment it feels like a feast is when the smoke hits your face and you're just starving. Tbh, cheap corn on the cob roasted in foil tastes like a five-star side dish out there.
