Just found out Blumotion hinges have a 10 year warranty

Was digging through the spec sheet on a box of 120 degree hinges I picked up last week. Never knew they covered that long, always just tossed the old ones.

Pretty sure it's only 10 years from date of manufacture not purchase.

It's only 10 years from date of manufacture not purchase"... funny you mention that, my neighbor bought a generator that was already three years old sitting on the shelf and didn't find out until it quit on him. He took it back to the store and they said sorry, the clock starts when they make it. So now he's got this fancy paperweight with a warranty that ran out before he even plugged it in.

Start digging into the fine print on those warranties and you'll find all kinds of traps like that. @jamie804 is right that it's based on manufacture date, but most people don't realize stores can sell old stock that eats up half the warranty before you even open the box. Best bet is to always check the serial number or manufacture date on the box before you buy, or just assume the warranty is shorter than advertised.

@ward.jamie brought up a solid point about checking the serial number before buying. Did your neighbor ever try to escalate it with the manufacturer directly, or did he just take the store's word for it? Seems like a lot of folks don't realize you can sometimes push back on that.
