My old tent finally gave out after 8 years during a storm in the Adirondacks, and I'm stuck between buying a bombproof 4-season replacement or just getting a good 3-season and avoiding bad weather.
The wind ripped a 2-foot seam on the third night, soaking everything, so do you guys think a heavier, more expensive tent is worth it for the occasional rough trip, or is it smarter to save the cash and just check the forecast better?

My buddy's three-season tent got flattened in a surprise Sierra blizzard last fall...

My four-season tent just laughed at me from the closet. It knows I only car camp.

That Adirondack storm sounds brutal. I'd get the 4-season for peace of mind, since checking the forecast won't stop a surprise squall at 3am.
