Teacher told me to 'pursue my passion' but I'm not sure that's realistic for everyone

My college advisor back in 2003 told me to follow my dream of being a writer, even though the job market in our small Michigan town was mostly manufacturing. I ended up teaching middle school instead, which pays the bills but isn't my passion. Do you think people oversell the idea of loving your job, or is it worth holding out for work that feels meaningful?

...and @sean_green44 is right on the money, teaching is kind of a thankless passion gig itself if you think about it. But hey, maybe the real passion is getting that paycheck to feed your kids, not some fairy tale job.

Tell my construction crew I'm just crushing my passion for drywall.

Actually teaching IS meaningful work even if it's not your passion project.
