Finally got that tricky 5-axis contour on the new Ingersoll part to hold tolerance after three scrapped pieces. An old timer at the tool crib saw me looking stressed and just said, 'Sometimes the machine is right, kid. Check your work offset, not your program.' He was right, I was off by .001 in Z.

How many times have I rechecked the same line of code? Meanwhile the offset is just sitting there wrong. Felt that one in my soul.

Man that old timer advice is gold. We get so locked into blaming the code we just spent hours on that we ignore the simple stuff. I've lost count of how many times I've chased a ghost in the program only to find out my tool length was off or I fat-fingered an offset. It's always that last place you look because you're sure you checked it already lol. Those old guys have made every mistake already, so they know where to point you.

Yeah, it's that last place you look because you stop looking after you find it! That's why it's always there.
