Just read that coffee cherries are actually a fruit and the bean is the pit
I was watching a documentary about farming in Brazil and they showed a coffee plantation. The narrator said each cherry holds two beans, which are the seeds inside. I always pictured coffee growing like nuts on a tree, not as red fruit. They said it takes about 2,000 cherries to make a single pound of roasted coffee. That's a lot of picking for my morning cup. Has anyone else seen the fresh fruit before? I'd love to try tasting the cherry pulp someday.

Ever wonder what the actual fruit tastes like? That's a crazy amount of work for one pound.

The work is part of the point, @nguyen.angela. That effort makes the final taste more meaningful, like a reward you earned. It turns a simple snack into a real experience.

Used to agree with @nguyen.angela, but trying it changed my mind.

@nguyen.angela I read somewhere that the pulp actually tastes kind of like a mix of honeydew and hibiscus. Kind of want to try it now too.
