Overheard a guy at my LCS say he only reads DC for the movies

I was at Cosmic Comics in Portland last Saturday flipping through back issues when this dude tells his friend he doesn't bother with DC comics because the movies tell him everything he needs to know. I just kept quiet but it got me thinking how many people are missing out on solid runs because they think the movies cover it. Has anyone else run into fans who treat comics like they're just trailers for the screen?

Cosmic Comics has some GREAT back issues though, those movie-only fans are MISSING OUT big time.

DUDE yes! It's like that with everything now, not just comics. People watch the movie or show and think they know the whole story, but they have no idea about the original stuff that made it all happen in the first place. I see it with music too, where someone only knows the radio hits and misses all the deep cuts on the album. It's a real shame because the back issues are where the real heart and crazy ideas live. Those movie fans are literally walking past a goldmine of cool stuff every day!

Bet you those same people think they know the whole backstory from watching a 10 minute YouTube summary too lol. I had a guy at work try to tell me he understood the whole Nightwing character arc because he saw the Titans show. Like bro, you missed all the good stuff with Blockbuster and the whole mid 90s run that actually made him interesting. It's funny watching them argue about plot holes that were literally explained in some random issue from 1989.
