Remember when we all used to fight with those old plastic bowl clips?

About a year ago, I was doing a tight perm on a client with super thick hair and the clips kept slipping off the rods. I was getting so frustrated. I tried using small sections of a cut-up rubber band instead, just wrapping it around the rod ends twice. It held perfectly and didn't leave a mark. I've been doing it ever since for tricky textures. Anyone else have a simple fix for old tools that just stopped working right?

Yeah, those old clips were a pain... @taraross is right, a hair tie does the same thing. I just keep a bag of the small clear ones in my kit now.

Actually, I always found hair ties left a weird dent, @diana_jenkins65.

Oh my gosh, that is such a smart fix! Those old clips were the worst for slipping. I totally feel your pain from back in the day. That rubber band trick is genius for getting a solid hold without any damage. It's amazing how the simplest solutions are often the best ones.

My grandma taught me that trick with a hair tie in the 90s, and I still use it on my car visor.
