Spent 6 hours fighting a collections dispute over a $47 gym membership I canceled in 2021

Honestly I thought I canceled that Planet Fitness account properly but they kept billing me and sent it to collections over $47. It took me calling Experian three times and sending them proof of cancellation before it finally dropped off my report last week. How long do these things usually take you guys to get sorted out?

Stop thinking they just disappear, because they don't. Collections agencies will chase you for years over tiny amounts like this, and it can mess up your credit score the whole time. You gotta actually dispute it with the credit bureaus and have proof ready to go, like screenshots or emails showing you canceled. I learned the hard way that waiting or ignoring it only makes it worse. So yeah, you really do have to fight these things or they'll hang around forever.

shane_hayes nah they definitely don't just go away. I had the same thing happen with a $39 gym bill from like 2019. Took me 4 months and three disputes with all the bureaus before it finally got removed. Just gotta keep at it with the proof.
