Cloud backup I ignored for years saved my data after a ransomware hit
I always thought cloud backup was just another monthly fee that people paid to feel safe. My buddy kept pushing Backblaze on me for 2 years and I never bothered. Then last month a ransomware attack hit my home server and encrypted everything, including my local external drives. I had 4 years of family photos and client projects on there with no backup. I started looking into recovery options and realized how screwed I was. After that I signed up for Backblaze at $9 a month and now I sleep way better. Has anyone else here dodged a bullet after ignoring backup advice for too long?

Wait, you actually had the ransomware hit before backing up? That's brutal but I'm glad you're good now. The peace of mind alone is worth the $9.

Gotta be honest @aaron740, I don't really get the hype. A little sketchy backup service for $9 a month when you could just use a free external drive and not panic?

Man, I've been there. Got hit with crypto locker a few years back on a job site laptop - lost three weeks of quotes and invoices. External drives are fine until you forget to plug them in for a month or they die on you. I pay for Backblaze now and it's worth every penny. The automatic backup saved my butt twice since then.
