Spent $50 on a background check for a date and it saved me big time
I matched with this girl on Tinder who seemed perfect, great job, nice pictures, all that. We talked for a week before I got a weird feeling about some of her stories not lining up. So I paid $50 for one of those online background check sites, figured it was worth it. Turns out she had a felony for fraud and was using a fake name. I dodged that bullet hard, and now I run a quick check on anyone before the first date if something feels off. Has anyone else tried this or do you think it's too much?

Hang on, doesn't that feel a little sketchy to you though? Like I get the fraud thing is scary and you probably did dodge a real bullet there, no argument. But paying for background checks on everyone before a first date feels like you're starting things off with zero trust built in. If someone did that to me before we even met I'd be super weirded out, like they were expecting me to be a criminal or something.

Paying $30 every time you swipe right would get expensive real quick.

Honestly, I think you're overreacting a little. One bad experience doesn't mean every person you match with is hiding a criminal record. Paying for a background check on everyone before a first date feels like you're treating dating like a job interview or a police investigation. Most people are just normal folks trying to meet someone, not con artists. If I found out someone ran a check on me before we even had coffee, I'd think they were paranoid or had some trust issues. Not saying you were wrong to check that one girl, but turning it into a habit seems like a lot of drama for something that's probably not that common.
