Had to decide between trusting a real video or a deepfake one last week
I was watching a clip of a politician saying something wild, and my friend swore it was fake. I spent 20 minutes checking the shadows and audio sync, turns out it was real but the context was cut. Anyone else spending way too much time fact checking videos now?

hayden_craig95 you're spot on about the light movement thing, I actually caught a deepfake last month because the reflections on the person's glasses didn't match the room they were supposed to be in. My cousin sent me a clip of a celebrity saying something totally out of character and I spent a good 20 minutes just zooming in on their irises checking for weird reflections. It's exhausting honestly, like I can't even watch a funny viral video without my brain going into detective mode. The blink trick is real though, I noticed one video where the person blinked way too fast like they were trying to keep up with something. We're all basically amateur FBI agents now just trying to figure out what's real.

Picked up a trick from a tech friend - check the eyes first. Deepfakes often mess up the blink patterns and reflections.

That eye-check thing is super clever though idk how many people actually do it in real life. @blair_nguyen makes a good point about how we rely on small details like blinking to tell what's real. Makes me wonder what other everyday habits might get overlooked as technology gets better at faking things.

Read somewhere that even subtle things like how light moves across a face can give away a deepfake. It's wild how much effort goes into spotting these things now.
