My friend swore his phone was listening, I called him crazy, then it happened to me

He kept saying ads would pop up right after we talked about stuff, like a specific brand of hiking boots. I laughed and said it was just coincidence. Then, two days after I helped my cousin pick out a new fridge model over the phone, I got a targeted ad for that exact fridge on Instagram. We never searched for it online, just talked. That was the moment I stopped laughing. Has anyone else had a conversation-only ad match that freaked them out?

Honestly, I get why it feels creepy, but I've never seen solid proof. Tbh our brains are just really good at noticing weird matches after the fact and ignoring all the times ads don't line up. I talked about pizza for an hour yesterday and my feed is all car ads.

Wait, have you ever had it happen where you get an ad for something you literally just bought? That's the one that gets me. Feels like the biggest waste of data ever. I swear the timing is always just off enough to be useless. Honestly, I agree with you though, we only remember the weird hits and forget the thousand misses. My phone probably thinks I'm obsessed with vacuums based on my ads, and I haven't cleaned my own carpets in years.

But @susansingh's bought-it-then-seen-it ad example is pretty hard to explain away with just coincidence.
