9 months of appeals before I realized I was missing a key document
I spent almost a year sending in my disability appeal paperwork without including the functional capacity report from my physical therapist. The tipping point was when a lady at the SSA office asked if I had documentation about my lifting limits and sit/stand needs. I had that report sitting in my email inbox the whole time but never thought it mattered for the appeal. Has anyone else found a specific piece of evidence that turned their case around?

Nine months seems like a long time to not realize you were missing one piece of paper. Was it really the missing report that held things up, or was there something else going on with how you filed? I've seen people get stuck in this process for years over smaller stuff than that.

Yeah I gotta push back a little here @smith.parker. Missing paperwork can absolutely stall out a filing for that long without it being something more complicated. I've had clients where one single form got lost in the shuffle between departments and it took months just to figure out who was supposed to sign it, let alone get it back. The system is just not set up to flag that stuff automatically, so if you don't happen to notice it's gone, you're just waiting and waiting.
