Heard a judge on the phone say 'just deny it and make them appeal' and it stuck with me
I was sitting in the waiting room at the SSA office in Cleveland last Tuesday, and this woman's phone was on speaker. Some judge or reviewer told her flat out to deny the first claim because most people give up after that. Made me realize the system is designed to wear you down on purpose. Has anyone else overheard something that confirmed the process is rigged from the start?

12 layers of appeals just to hear "oops we lost your paperwork.

Yeah that's a real thing with SSA appeals but it's not some huge conspiracy. The system is overloaded and they figure most folks will move on or get a lawyer eventually.

Here's the part nobody talks about - those appeal denials are actually budget-driven. Congress gives SSA a set amount each year, so they deny a certain percentage to stay within funding. It's not about your case, it's about the math.
