PSA: Don't pick a lawyer without checking their appeal stats first
I had to choose between a big disability law firm that advertises everywhere and a smaller local lawyer who had fewer cases but better reviews. I went with the big firm and they blew 3 deadlines on my initial appeal, costing me 6 months of waiting. Anyone else get burned by picking the flashy option instead of the detail-oriented one?

Yeah the big firm thing really nailed my buddy too, they missed two deadlines on his LTD claim and he had to start all over again. Did you end up switching to a local lawyer after that?

start all over again" is brutal, reminds me of when my gym lost my membership info and made me re-enroll.

Man I feel that pain. After my old insurance firm lost my entire claim file twice, I started keeping my own duplicate copies of everything. Literally scanned each document myself and saved them in a folder on my phone named "claim backup." It's a hassle upfront but it saved me months when they tried to make me "start over" again - I just handed them the copies and said "here, now keep going." Saved me from having to redo the whole initial interview and paperwork nightmare.
