That SSA form I filled out wrong cost me 4 months of waiting

I was at the Social Security office in Springfield last June and the lady behind the counter pointed out I put the wrong date for when my symptoms started on my disability appeal form. She said it was off by almost a year and that would have triggered a different review process entirely. Has anyone else had a small clerical error on their paperwork throw off their entire timeline like that?

Did you call and ask them to go back and correct the date on your file? I had to do that with a different agency once and it saved me from starting over. You might be able to get them to move your original application date forward if you have proof.

Did you actually get through to a human on the phone, or did you just sacrifice a chicken to the automated menu like I did?

That whole "off by almost a year" thing is brutal and I feel for you. @juliarodriguez brings up a good point about calling and asking them to go back and correct it (I imagine you've already tried that though cause it's the obvious first move). The way one tiny date can throw off months of waiting is honestly insane to me, like they couldn't just catch it on their end and ask for clarification? Sorry you're stuck in that loop, it's the worst kind of bureaucratic nightmare.
