The thing that tipped me off about my SSDI appeal was a 3 inch stack of denial letters
I had been appealing the same way for 18 months. Fill out the forms, mail them in, wait 4 months, get denied. Repeat. Then my neighbor's cousin who works at SSA told me she could see on her screen that I was leaving one box blank every time. The box about 'do you have any medical records you want to add'. I thought that meant stuff from my own doctor. Turns out they wanted me to include records from any specialist I ever saw. I had been leaving that blank not knowing I was basically telling them I had no proof. Has anyone else found a box or a question on those forms that messed them up without realizing it?
And the worst part is, they design those forms to be as confusing as possible on purpose. It's like they want you to miss something so they can deny you and then act like it's your fault for not reading fine print that's practically invisible. I swear, half the people processing these applications probably don't even know what half those questions mean either.
Wait, so you were leaving that blank the whole time? That's brutal but also kinda hilarious in a tragic way. I totally missed the part on my application where it asked about "any other conditions" after I listed my main one, and I spent a year getting denied only to find out I had to write in my anxiety disorder separately even though it was in my main doctor's notes. I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry about how many hours I wasted on something that dumb.
