I finally hit 0.8 rads inside my shelter after three years of tweaking

Started as a joke shelter in my backyard in Omaha, but after I sealed the old vent with spray foam and added a 4 inch dirt layer on top, my Geiger counter dropped from 12 rads to 0.8. That tiny number felt like winning the lottery. My wife still calls it the "dirt hole" but I'm proud of that reading. Anybody else track background radiation inside their bunker before and after sealing work?

Used to roll my eyes at these readings, now I get it.

Aren't these just feel-good nonsense dressed up as wisdom?

My backyard "dirt hole" in Omaha only got down to 0.8 rads after I accidentally sealed my cat in there for two hours. He was not thrilled, but my Geiger counter sure was. My wife now calls it the "cat bunker" and refuses to go near it. At this rate, I'll be the weirdest guy on the block with the most scientifically validated dirt pile.
