Duct taped my fence gate latch 3 weeks ago

Used to replace the whole latch every time it broke. Cost me $15 a pop at the hardware store. Finally just wrapped the busted plastic piece in 4 layers of silver tape and it's held through two storms now, anyone else stopped replacing stuff because tape works better?

Heard the UV damage thing but mine's been fine for a month in full sun so far.

Hate to be that guy but duct tape is actually not great for outdoor use long term. The adhesive gets all gooey and fails in the sun.

My buddy patched his RV awning with duct tape and came back from a two week trip to find it had melted into this black gooey mess that stained the fabric. He said never again, went with gorilla tape instead.
