A guy in my shop told me my rope socket method was a ticking time bomb

I've been doing rope sockets the same way for 15 years, always a certain number of turns on the wedge clamp and a specific torque on the nuts. Last month, a new guy on a job in Portland watched me and flat out said, 'You know that's creating a stress point that will fail in under five years, right?' He showed me his method, which uses a different sequence and a special gauge to check socket fill. I was mad at first, but I tried it on the next three cars. The difference in the socket fill was clear as day. My old way left gaps. Now I use his process every time. It's a bit slower, but the peace of mind is worth it. Has anyone else had a core method challenged like that, and did you change your ways?

Glad you were open to learning something new.

What exactly did I learn though? You said I was open to it, but the point itself got lost. I need to know what the takeaway was supposed to be.

The takeaway was about checking your sources first.

So you were open to the lesson but missed the actual lesson? Did you just stand there nodding while your brain was on vacation? The takeaway was to check your sources before you believe stuff, but I guess that part took a detour.
