Saw a TikTok claiming dish soap kills grass in 24 hours, tried it on my crack in the driveway
Okay so I saw this viral video where someone poured blue Dawn dish soap on a patch of crabgrass and it turned brown overnight. I tried it on a small crack in my driveway here in Phoenix last Tuesday, and by Thursday morning the grass was definitely dead. My neighbor says it's just the soap suffocating the leaves and not actually killing the roots, like a contact herbicide. Has anyone else tested this or looked up the actual chemistry behind it?

You ever notice how these sprays just make you feel like you're doing something? I tried that some years back on morning glories that were taking over my fence. Sprayed them good with some store bought weed killer, thought I'd won. Two weeks later they were back worse like they had a grudge. Ended up having to dig out the whole root system by hand. Took me a whole Saturday and a lot of cussing. So yeah, temporary fixes are good at making you feel productive but not actually fixing the problem.

Yeah the "suffocating the leaves" thing makes sense, I've done the same thing with just regular dish soap on weeds in my yard here in Texas. It definitely wipes them out fast but they always come back from the roots if you don't pull them, kind of a temporary fix lol.
