Showerthought: My old Mustad pull-offs gave out after 15 years of service

I was finishing a shoe on a big Percheron over in Millerton last Thursday when the whole thing just snapped at the hinge. It was my fault, really, I'd been putting off replacing them because they were so reliable. Had to finish the job with my backup nippers, which was a real pain. Anyone have a favorite brand for pull-offs that can take a beating?

Guess I was in the same boat until last week. Always swore by my old Mustangs because they just worked, never let me down. But after that hinge snapped mid-shoe on a heavy draft like that, I had to rethink everything. Switched to a pair of GE Forge pull-offs after borrowing a buddy's set, and honestly, the thicker steel and the way they grab the nail feels way more solid. Not saying Mustangs are bad, they got me through 15 years, but they're not built for the daily pounding I put them through anymore. Sometimes you gotta admit a tool has limits even if you got attached to it.

15 years of service" is a better run than most marriages, honestly.
