Sorting through my grandma's attic turned up a box of handmade clothes
I pulled out a dress from the 70s, all hand-stitched with tiny details. It made me realize how much care went into each piece back then. Now, everything feels mass-produced and quick. I'm thinking about bringing that handmade touch into my own designs, maybe with more patience and less rush.

Holding a whole family history sounds nice, my sewing skills would just tell a story of crooked seams and frustration.

Crooked seams and frustration, lol that's a mood for sure. My sewing would probably look like a map of my failed projects, haha. But at least it's not like @laura841's friend's quilt where every stitch is perfect and meaningful. Our crooked seams have character, they're just telling a different kind of story, like how not to sew straight. Future generations will know we tried, and that's what counts, right?

Oh, I have to disagree there. Those crooked seams are the real history. A perfect quilt in a trunk is nice, but the one my grandma used every day, with its patches and messy stitches where she fixed it, that's the story. You can see where her hands worked, where life happened to it. That's the history you can feel.

My friend Sarah found her great aunt's wedding quilt in a trunk. Every stitch was signed with initials and dates. She said it felt like holding a whole family history in her hands.
