Shoutout to my old coworker who got canned for a joke about the company's new logo on his private account

I used to think that stuff was overblown until I saw the HR report that listed his 3-year-old tweet as 'brand misalignment' and realized my own account was full of similar venting about my last job in Phoenix.

That's a real wake-up call. I'd be scrubbing my old posts too after seeing something like that. It's crazy they can reach back years for something you posted in your own time. Makes you wonder what else they're looking for when they screen people. Your friend is right about setting everything to private.

Total privacy just makes you look like you have something to hide. A normal person's old posts shouldn't be a problem if they're not actually bad. Living in fear of old jokes is a weird way to go through life.

Scrub your old posts right now, seriously. I went back and deleted years of tweets after a friend got flagged for something dumb. Set your accounts to private and use a fake name that isn't linked to your real one. Companies absolutely do dig through old social media looking for reasons. It's not worth the risk over some old jokes.
