Epoxy bubbles ruining my scrap wood bar top project
I've been saving hardwood cutoffs from installs for a while to build a bar top. Followed the epoxy instructions to the letter, but now the whole surface is covered in small bubbles. Used a heat gun on low, and it just created more issues. Maybe I'm better off laying floors than doing resin work.

Damn, epoxy bubbles are the worst. I read that mixing too fast or high humidity causes them. A propane torch on low, waved quick, pops bubbles better than a heat gun. @the_kevin isn't wrong about heat gun risks, but a torch takes practice. Pour thin layers and torch each one to avoid trapped air. Try it on scrap first.

Was it a really thick pour with a deep pour epoxy or just a regular coat? I had the same bubble nightmare on a river table last year, totally feel your pain. The humidity thing the_elizabeth mentioned is huge, I never even thought about that before I messed up. Are you going to sand it down and try again with thinner layers?

Wait, you used a heat gun on low and it made MORE bubbles? That's wild... I've never heard of that happening before. Usually the heat makes them rise and pop. Did it maybe cook the top layer too fast and trap air underneath? Or was the wood super warm already? That's just such a weird result.
