A bride's mom told me her daughter's bouquet was too 'Instagram' and not enough 'her'
She said the design felt like a copy of a trend, not a reflection of the person. It made me question if I'm pushing my own style too much over what the client actually wants. How do you balance current trends with a client's personal taste?

Nah, trends are what people pay for.

I read a piece in a florist magazine last year that called this the "Pinterest problem." It said about 60% of brides bring in photos of trendy designs they've seen online. My process now starts with asking them to describe their own personality in three words, then we look at those trendy photos together. I point out what parts they really love, like a specific color or flower type, and we build from that core. It helps filter the trend to serve the person, not the other way around. That mom's feedback, while tough, is a good reminder to keep that conversation central.

My sister's living room looks like a hotel lobby from a magazine... all gray and white. She saw it online and just copied it. It doesn't feel like her home at all. That's what this reminds me of. People get so caught up in a look they see everywhere that their own taste gets lost. The trick is to use the trend like a spice, not the whole meal. You have to be the one to help them find their flavor in the middle of all that noise.
