Paid $150 to have my old chimney tuckpointed and it still leaks every time it storms.
Wish I'd just slapped some mortar patch on it myself for $20 instead of trusting the guy who said he'd been doing it for 20 years, has anyone else had a contractor just phone it in?

foster.tessa nailed it. $400 for caulk is criminal. John's roof story hits close to home. I had a guy come out to fix a leaking skylight, charged me $300, and he just globbed some silicone around the edges. Next storm came and water was pooling on the window sill inside. Called him back and he said I probably didn't wait long enough for it to dry. Waited a week, still leaked. Ended up ripping it all out and doing it myself with a tube of Lexel I got for $12. Took me an hour and its been bone dry for three years now. Hard to trust anyone with a ladder and a caulk gun these days.

Ngl, that stinks. I paid a guy $400 to fix a leaky roof and he just slapped some caulk on it and took off. Next rain came and water was still dripping right into my kitchen. It's frustrating when you think you're paying for experience and you just get a half-assed job that doesn't even work.
