My bench press arch gives out after a few reps and I can't fix it
I've been trying to get my bench press form right for a while now, especially keeping a good arch for more strength. But every single time, around rep three or four, my back just goes flat on the bench. I moved my feet around, switched my grip width, and even took phone videos to check myself. When I start to get tired, everything falls apart and I lose all tightness. I looked up stuff online from coaches I trust, but none of their advice stops this from happening. Does anyone know a good way to keep your arch solid through a whole set? Maybe there's a simple drill I haven't tried yet. I lift alone most days, so getting help is hard, and it's really bugging me.

Oh man, I had this exact problem for months. I mean, what finally clicked for me was just practicing the arch itself without any weight, like a lot. I'd lie on the bench between sets and just focus on driving my heels into the floor hard and squeezing my shoulder blades together, holding it for like thirty seconds. It sounds too simple, but it built the muscle memory so when I got tired, my body just defaulted to that tight position. Idk, maybe it's just me but that drill made a bigger difference than changing my grip ever did.

Tbh, that drill Alice mentioned is totally the move. I used to lose my arch the exact same way once my shoulders got tired. What finally stopped it for me was just being really mean about keeping my shoulder blades pinched together the whole set, like even on the easy reps. Honestly, I pictured trying to snap the bar in half across my chest and it forced my upper back to stay put.

Lol, your tip about snapping the bar in half reminded me of my own disaster attempts. I used to lose my arch so bad that my spotter thought I was trying to do a decline press by accident. Honestly, being mean about shoulder blades never worked for me because I'd forget after two reps. What finally helped was just like Alice said, practicing the arch empty handed between sets. But even now, if I get too tired, my form goes out the window and I look like a folded lawn chair. Maybe I need to get meaner with myself, lmao.

Holy moly, snapping the bar in half is such a wild way to think about it! That mental picture is way more intense than just pinching your shoulders.
