inAfter a series of callbacks, my view on cable thickness has shifted.
The part about it cracking after a few years... it reminds me of an old universal remote I had. The plastic got this weird sticky feel to it, like it was melting. Then the buttons just started to crack and fall apart if you pressed them too hard. I guess all that old plastic just gives up after a while... not just cables. Had to peel the rubbery gunk off with rubbing alcohol.

Man, this hits home. My dad always made this huge pot of chili every football Sunday, and half the neighborhood would just wander in. Now I just nuke a burrito and eat over the sink. Makes you miss that noise.

Yeah the fridge is doing all the work for you. It firms up the fat so it doesn't just melt into the flour right away. My crusts stopped shrinking in the pan too, which was a huge win. That break really does make the whole process less of a fight.
