My manager's daily status updates are driving me crazy
Honestly, I spend more time reporting than actually working. Tbh, it's affecting my performance because I can't focus. Any advice on how to set boundaries?

God, I read an HBR thing about this. Basically if they need daily updates it means they don't trust people to just do their jobs.

Ugh, I feel this. My old job was exactly the same, just drowning in updates. You have to push back, really. Try asking your manager if you can switch to a weekly summary, because the daily stuff is impacting your real work. Frame it as you wanting to do better on your actual tasks, not just the reports. A good boss should hear that. If they don't, it's a real sign of a bad work culture.

Yeah and it's not just jobs. Everything's turning into box-checking now. Schools, doctor visits, even community groups. So much time spent proving you did the thing that you can't actually do the thing well. It's like we're all being managed by a system that forgot what the real point was. Feels like a trust issue, deep down. They want a paper trail more than they want good results.
