Swapped from paper punch lists to a tablet app 3 months ago
I used to print out punch lists and mark them up with a highlighter, but kept losing pages at the site. Now I use an app that shows each unit on a floorplan, and I can snap a photo of the issue right there. Has anyone else found a good way to keep subs accountable without paper?

Yeah the "app is great until you're in a basement with no service" part hits too close to home. I was dead set on going digital until I tried uploading photos of a cracked slab from a parking garage stairwell and the app just spun for ten minutes. Ended up taking screenshots of the forms and texting them to the foreman later that night. I still use the tablet for most stuff because I'm a sucker for shiny tools, but I keep a folded up paper backup in my vest pocket like a safety blanket. Honestly my system is held together with duct tape and good intentions half the time.

Stick with the clipboard and carbonless forms. That physical proof shuts down every excuse before it starts. Apps are nice for the easy days but they fold the second you need them most. Paper doesnt care about service or battery life.

Paper trails still work better for me because I can hand them off to a foreman right on the spot and they can't claim they never got the email. Apps are great until you're in a basement with no service and the photos won't upload. I keep a clipboard with carbonless punch sheets that I fill out in duplicate, one for me and one for the sub. That way everybody's holding the same physical proof of what's wrong and when it was flagged.
